New Workshop Announced!

New Workshop Announced!

As of September, all building reports have been published, printed, and sent to local Main Street programs. We are incredibly excited to have these reports available to participants after months of hard work from NMS staff, board members, and local directors. The reports are meant to educate property owners on how to revitalize and maintain their historic structures. Reports feature basic building information and history, historic design education, local economic statistics, and a variety of resources. Our website has a resource on how to better understand the reports and default information for all structures included in the reports.

We recently announced the final session of our HPEP training series, the Historic Window Restoration Workshop. This training will be held in Papillion and instructed by David White, owner of Aksarben Window Works.

David is a third-generation painting contractor, specializing in historic window restoration in Omaha, NE. With over two decades in the trade, David brings the knowledge and passion to preserving and restoring historic structures throughout Nebraska, South Dakota, and Iowa.

The presentation will explore the reasons to restore, the different types of windows, historical approaches to window layout, storm windows, how to work safely, as well as live demonstrations of the various restoration processes. Questions are highly encouraged, and attendees will learn from a window restoration expert the tools and tricks needed to maintain and restore their windows.

The in-person session is limited to 20 participants. Registrants will also receive free lunch. We are excited to offer travel scholarships for our Nebraska Main Street Community & Individual Partners to offset the costs associated with attending the workshop. The scholarships will be awarded based on fund availability, applications, and participant need.

We can’t wait to see you there!
