Hands-On History: NMSN Hosts Historic Window Restoration Workshop

Saturday, November 8, 2025- Papillon, NE- The Nebraska Main Street Network invited David White of Aksarben Window Works to present a workshop on restoring historic windows. David’s expertise ensured that the workshop was incredibly informative, interesting, and entertaining for all participants.

During the time, participants - including historic home owners, students, and construction professionals -  learned various skills such as disassembling and re-assembling double-hung windows, removing putty, glazing, and paint, cutting glass, and reinstalling panes. Some participants tested their skills by cutting the glass panes, tacking them to the wood, and glazing.

Nebraska Main Street’s effort to educate individuals on historic preservation included a travel scholarship to support the costs associated with getting to the workshop. Four participants won scholarships- Lainey Paquette, Joshua Miller, Bryson Simpson, and Khalisha Casey.

The workshop & associated scholarships were a part of the Nebraska Main Street Network’s Historic Preservation Educational Programming contract awarded to by the Nebraska State Historical Society. The first two sessions of the series included a Guide to National Register Listing and Historic Tax Credit & Section 106 training.

Participants had overwhelmingly positive reviews, primarily wishing for more time and similar, future sessions. Those interested in any workshops or Nebraska Main Street news should follow the social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) and consider a Partnership!
