Designated Main Street® Communities

Nebraska communities meeting program requirements are awarded Main Street designation. Designated Main Street communities are also provided an opportunity to receive National Accreditation from the National Main Street Center based upon a set of organizational standards.

Nebraska's designated Main Street communities have an established management organization with paid staff, active board and committee leadership dedicated to ongoing revitalization and management activities that strengthen and sustain their commercial business districts.  These high-performing communities have broad-based community support for the revitalization effort, including a strong commitment from the local government and various private sector organizations.  Their work is heavily grounded in the Main Street Four-Point Approach®.  These communities also have sufficient and sustainable finances, participate in on-going training and education, and actively utilize the resources and technical assistance from the Nebraska Main Street program and National Main Street Center.

These communities understand the importance of their marketplace and how it affects what happens downtown. They also know that to be successful at creating a downtown business district that maintains vitality takes a long-term effort. Communities in Main Street know that true downtown revitalization isn't based on a single project.

Designated Nebraska Main Street communities receive on-site technical assistance, participate in regular training programs, have access to grant opportunities and other special programs. All Main Street communities benefit from a structured approach with professional management and annual reporting, so progress can be monitored, communicated and celebrated.
